Cancún Cenotes

Tour operators

Cenote tours from Cancún, compared

At least fourteen companies run cenote tours from Cancún, and 26 of their cenote days are bookable online with live dates. They are not interchangeable: the format decides whether the cenote is the whole day or a stop on a 12-hour Chichén Itzá run, the departure town decides how long you sit in a van, and the price runs from $39 for a jungle combo to $119 for an underground river. Here is all of it side by side, with each operator's own-site price and its tourism registry (RNT) number where it prints one.

"From" prices leave out the gate fees most ruins days collect on the day (Chichén Itzá 697 pesos for foreigners, Tulum 165 + 100 pesos), and the life jacket and locker at some cenotes. Bring pesos in cash. Prices are "from" prices per person unless the card says it is priced per group; ratings and review counts as captured October 27, 2026. Which tour?

Choose the right cenote tour from Cancún

The right cenote tour comes down to four things: whether you want ruins in the same day, how long you will sit in a van, whether you want swimming only or an adventure park, and whether you dive. These are the trade-offs, with the operators that do each one best.

Ruins and a cenote

Amigo Tours runs the most-reviewed Chichén Itzá day, from $57 online with a cenote swim and Valladolid. EKINOX Tours runs the Tulum day with Cenote Mariposa from $45, and the Akumal turtle version from $88. Both leave the ruins fees to be paid on the day.

Swimming only

Cenotes El Retoño sells its own park: a day pass is 350 pesos on its site, or $59 online with lunch and transport from Cancún. Cenotes Kin-Ha on the Ruta de los Cenotes lists 600 pesos for both of its cenotes.

Action on a budget

Extreme Adventure Cancun runs the jungle ATV, zipline and cenote combo on the Ruta de los Cenotes, $39 online and the most-reviewed adventure combo. Lighthouse Tours in Puerto Morelos sells cenote trips on the same road from $69.

Caves and underground rivers

Rio Secreto sells its underground river tour from $89 without transport on its own site, $119 online with pickup. In Tulum, Mexico Kan Tours runs a half-day cave and cenote snorkel, and Edventure Tours lists its cenote snorkel tour at $115.

Cenote diving

Certified divers go with a dive centre: Xico Dive Center lists 3,800 pesos for two cenote dives and Deep Dive Mexico €140, both in Playa del Carmen and both rated 4.9 or higher on Google Maps. Cave diving beyond daylight needs full cave certification.

A private day

Xaman-Ha Connections in Tulum runs only private days and publishes no prices; Tulum Underground lists a private half-day cenote tour at $179 per person. Online, a private Chichén Itzá, Yaxunah and cenote day is listed at $1,126.

One rule applies to every cenote: no sunscreen, lotion or repellent in the water, and a shower before you go in. Yucatán state law sets it for its cenotes, and parks in Quintana Roo such as Dos Ojos ask the same. Bring pesos in cash for the gate, lockers and life jackets.

Operators

The cenote operators, by departure area

These are the cenote tour operators and cenote parks you can book directly, grouped by where they are based: Cancún, Puerto Morelos and the Ruta de los Cenotes, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum. Each profile gives the operator's own-site price and, where it is printed, its RNT number.

Cancún — hotel zone & downtown

Operators based in Cancún that collect you from your hotel zone or downtown hotel, or from a meeting point on Av. Tulum, for cenote day trips to Chichén Itzá, Tulum or a cenote club.

Its site lists the private half-day cenote tour at $179, an above-and-below-ground half day and Tulum ruins with a cenote at $219, a full Chichén Itzá, cenote and Valladolid day at $319, and a scuba lesson in a cenote at $179. It suits small groups who want a guide to themselves. Caveat: the review base is small (73 on Google Maps) and the price is per person, so it adds up for families.

Small-group cenote tours Licence not listed 4.8 ★ · 1,686 reviews (Google Maps)

A Tulum company active since 2007, running small-group cenote tours: a half-day cave and cenote snorkel with lamps and about 600 m of chambers, a cenote bike tour to Cenote Cristal and Cenote Escondido, and a three-cenote version with ziplines and a canoe. Vans carry up to 10 and all entrance fees, gear and lunch are included. It suits travellers staying in Tulum. Caveat: prices load only in the booking widget (in USD), shared tours need four people to run, and pickup outside Tulum costs extra.

Cenote snorkel tours Licence not listed 4.8 ★ · 203 reviews (Google Maps)

A small Tulum outfitter with its office in the plaza at the Tulum ruins, built around snorkelling in cenotes. Its site lists the cenote snorkel tour at $115 and pairs the same snorkel with the Cobá or Muyil ruins. It suits travellers already in Tulum who want a guide in the water rather than a coach day from Cancún. Caveat: the site gives little detail (no group size, no named cenotes, no prices for the ruins combinations), so ask before booking.

How we checked licences. Mexico's Registro Nacional de Turismo (RNT) is the public catalogue of tourism service providers, regulated by the federal tourism ministry (SECTUR) and operated with the states; article 48 of the Ley General de Turismo makes registration mandatory for tourism service providers, within 30 days of starting operations. We looked for an RNT number in the footer, about, contact, terms and legal pages of each operator's own website. A missing number means we could not see one, not that the company is unregistered. Dive centres' PADI ratings are a separate, private credential. 0 of 14 publish one — shown above. Amigo Tours, EKINOX Tours, Cenotes El Retoño, Extreme Adventuring Cancun, Cenotes Kin-Ha, Lighthouse Tours, Rio Secreto, Cancun Adventures, Deep Dive Mexico, Xico Dive Center, Mexico Kan Tours, Xaman-Ha Connections, Tulum Underground, Edventure Tours: real, reviewed operators that don't list a number publicly; we mark them unverified rather than omit them. We excluded aggregators and booking portals, which are not operators.

Left out. We list companies that run cenote trips under their own name and website. Resellers, booking portals and transfer companies were left out, as were Maps profiles whose website is a Facebook, Viator or blank page, agencies whose own site showed no cenote trip, a Mexico City-based reseller, and two well-reviewed cenote parks and a Puerto Morelos dive centre whose websites could not be read when we checked. Park-group tours (the theme-park cenote circuits) are compared on a separate page. Nobody sells an official ticket for the cenotes as a whole: each cenote is run by its own ejido, family or company.

Disclosure. Direct prices and ratings are from operators' own sites and public review platforms (checked October 27, 2026). Online prices, ratings and review counts are GetYourGuide's, captured October 27, 2026; booking through those links may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you, and it never changes the order. Always confirm current price, schedule and what's included with the operator before booking. Machine-readable version (JSON)

Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the questions people ask most before booking cenote tours from Cancún or going to a cenote on their own.

Who runs the cenote tours from Cancún?

Private tour companies and the cenote parks themselves. The most-reviewed cenote days are run by Amigo Tours (Chichén Itzá), EKINOX Tours (Tulum and Akumal) and Extreme Adventure Cancun (ATV and cenote); Cenotes El Retoño, Cenotes Kin-Ha and Rio Secreto sell their own cenotes. Dive centres in Playa del Carmen and Tulum run the cenote dives.

How much does a cenote tour from Cancún cost?

Online, the six tours here cost $39 to $119 per person. On top of the ruins days you pay the gate fees on the day: Chichén Itzá is 697 pesos for foreigners (INAH), Tulum 165 pesos plus 100 pesos for the Jaguar park. Doing it yourself, a single cenote charges about 80 to 500 pesos.

Which cenote tour from Cancún is best?

It depends on what else you want. For ruins, the Chichén Itzá day is the most-reviewed cenote tour from Cancún. For swimming only, the cenote swim day at El Retoño is rated 4.9 on 75 reviews. For the cheapest day, the ATV and cenote combo costs $39.

Can I visit cenotes without a tour?

Yes. Most cenotes sell entry at the gate, in cash. The nearest are on the Ruta de los Cenotes in Puerto Morelos, about 30 minutes south of Cancún, reachable by rental car or colectivo plus a taxi. A tour wins when you want Chichén Itzá in one day or have no car.

Is it cheaper to book a cenote tour directly?

Not always. EKINOX Tours lists its own tours from $119, well above its $45 Tulum day online, while Rio Secreto sells the cave tour from $89 without transport on its own site against $119 with pickup online. Booking online adds free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
