Cenote Ik Kil: Entrance Fee, Hours, Depth and Tours
Updated October 27, 2026
Cenote Ik Kil is a round, open cenote inside the Ik Kil eco-archaeological park, 3 km from Chichén Itzá in Yucatán and about 200 km west of Cancún by road. Adult entry is 240 pesos (MX$240) on the park's own site, with life vest, locker and parking included. A carved stone stairway leads down to the water, which sits about 26 m below ground under hanging vines, and the pool is about 48 m deep. It pairs easily with Chichén Itzá, five minutes away by car.

Ik Kil entrance fee and hours
The park publishes its prices on cenoteikkil.com; we read them on 27 October 2026. It is open every day of the year, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The park also sells tickets online and says booking ahead skips the line. Older blogs quote 100 or 150 pesos: those prices are out of date. See how Ik Kil compares with other cenotes on what a cenote costs.

How deep is Ik Kil, and what is the swim like?
Ik Kil is about 60 m (200 ft) across and about 48 m (157 ft) deep, with the water surface about 26 m (85 ft) below ground level (Wikipedia). A stone stairway with small viewing balconies leads down to a platform at the water, and small catfish live in the pool (Yucatán state tourism). The park makes the life vest mandatory, and lifeguards supervise the water. Phones and cameras are allowed in marked areas, without flash. Yucatán's cenote rules (Decree 193/2014) ask you to shower before you enter and not to put on lotion or sunscreen in the three hours before, except organic, biodegradable products. More on the basics in our cenote swimming guide.
When is Ik Kil crowded?
The park publishes no crowd figures, so this rests on one visitor report from 2025 (TravelTomTom): about 30 people in the water at 11 a.m. and more than 100 an hour later, once the tour buses arrived after 11:30. Tours stopped arriving after 4 p.m., so the last hour was quieter. If you drive yourself, the 9 a.m. opening and the hour before the 5 p.m. close are the times that report points to. Guests of Hotel Ik Kil, on the same grounds, can also swim from 8 a.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m.
Ik Kil or another cenote near Chichén Itzá?
Ik Kil is the closest swimming cenote to the ruins, and the fee includes the vest and locker. The Sacred Cenote inside Chichén Itzá is closer still, but you can only look at it from the rim. Cenote Suytun, 8 km from Valladolid, is a cave cenote with shallow water and a stone platform under a hole in the roof, and 2025 reports put it at 120 to 250 pesos. If the Valladolid side of the day matters more to you, our Valladolid cenotes page sets them side by side.
How to get to Ik Kil from Cancún
By car, take the 180D toll road west to Chichén Itzá; parking at Ik Kil is included in the ticket. Posta (March 2026) puts the tolls at roughly 100 to 200 pesos for the round trip. ADO buses from Cancún to Chichén Itzá take 3 to 4 hours (Posta, 2026); ado.com.mx sells the tickets and shows the fare for your date. The Tren Maya leaves Cancún Aeropuerto at 8:00, 9:30 and 11:50 a.m. (Posta, 2026), and the park is about 5 minutes by taxi from the Chichén Itzá station. You can also visit cenotes without a tour.
